Chick-fil-A – Detroit, MI
Shelby Mechanical was proud to provide full ground-up commercial plumbing services for the new Chick-fil-A location in Detroit, Michigan. This project required precise coordination, high-capacity plumbing systems, and strict adherence to commercial kitchen and restaurant plumbing codes — all delivered on schedule and to specification.
This brand-new restaurant was built from the ground up, and our team handled the underground, rough-in, and finish plumbing for the entire facility.
Full-Scale Restaurant Plumbing Installation
For this Detroit Chick-fil-A, Shelby Mechanical installed all interior plumbing systems based on architectural and engineering prints.
The project included high-volume kitchen plumbing, restrooms, grease waste systems, and multiple specialty water and gas services required for a modern fast-service restaurant.
Our team completed all interior distribution, fixtures, connections, and specialty systems.
Sanitary Plumbing Systems
The restaurant’s restrooms and floor drainage were built to handle high daily traffic while meeting Michigan plumbing codes.
Installed sanitary fixtures and drains included:
- (2) Toilets with flush valves
- (2) Wall-hung lavatories with carriers, faucets, and mixing valves
- (7) Floor drains
- Floor and wall cleanouts installed where required
All sanitary piping and venting was installed using Schedule 40 PVC, ensuring durability, longevity, and compliance.
Grease Waste & Kitchen Drainage System
Commercial kitchens require powerful grease management and drainage systems to protect piping and keep operations flowing smoothly. Shelby Mechanical installed a complete grease-waste system that connects all kitchen fixtures to the external grease interceptor.
This system included:
- (12) Floor drains
- (7) Floor sinks
- (2) Trench drains
- Mop sink water and drain connections
- Undermount sink connections
- (4) Hand sinks with water, drain, and faucet
- Double-bowl prep sink
- 4-compartment sink with indirect waste into floor sink
- Dump sink
These systems were engineered to handle heavy grease loads, high-volume washing, and constant food service operations.
Water, Gas & Specialty Plumbing Systems
To support Chick-fil-A’s kitchen equipment, beverage systems, and safety requirements, Shelby Mechanical installed a wide range of specialty plumbing systems.
These included:
- 60-gallon gas water heater with recirculation pump & expansion tank
- 2” RPZ & PRV on the main water line
- 1½” RPZ for irrigation with 40 ft of supply to greenspace
- Filtered water system piping
- (4) Locking frost-free hose bibs
- Eyewash station with mixing valve
- Ice maker water lines and trench drain connections
- Tea and coffee maker water lines
- Rethermalizer water line
- Black steel oil lines (¾” and 2”)
- PVC chase from soda factory to drink dispensers
- Gas piping up to 3” diameter
- Rooftop HVAC condensate lines
All water lines were installed using CPVC, and all piping was insulated with fiberglass pipe insulation for energy efficiency and condensation control.

Shelby Mechanical provided all required plumbing and gas permits for this project.
We also completed:
- Underground plumbing excavation
- Code-compliant cleanouts and venting
